Mission
Soho Parish is a small school at the heart of the Soho community and these children form such a vital part of the unique village of Soho, therefore we felt that what better place to start than to support this school.
Soho Estates has agreed funding for the next couple of years in order to improve numeracy standards in the school by recruiting an extra member of staff. This member of staff can teach the children who are struggling in class by pairing certain years together.
Why the school needs an extra math’s tutor?
'We have seen big benefits in performance, confidence and self-esteem in numeracy by streaming the children in Years 5 and 6 into three ability groups. This pilot has been so successful that we would like to make it a permanent feature and introduce it into Years 3 and 4.'
How the service has benefitted the children so far
'We have just collated the final maths results from the summer of 2010, and it is clear that there has been a huge improvement already and we are on target to make further improvements this year. The small groups of children who work with the specialist maths teacher we have employed have really grown in confidence since they began working with her, and all now say they love their maths lessons.'
