JOHN JAMES

CEO OF SOHO ESTATES

At Soho Estates, we are committed to operating our business in a

socially and environmentally responsible manner. We recognise the

impact that real estate development can have on local communities

and the planet, and we strive to minimise our negative impact

while maximising the positive contributions we can make.

To achieve this goal, we prioritise sustainability at every stage of our

operations. We seek out environmentally friendly building materials and

construction practices, including energy-efficient designs, sustainable building

certifications, and waste reduction strategies. We also work to promote green

spaces and minimise our carbon footprint through the use of renewable

energy sources and smart energy management systems where possible.

We are committed to building long-term relationships with our tenants and

partners that prioritise sustainability and environmental stewardship. We work

with local communities and stakeholders to ensure that our developments are

aligned with their needs and priorities and contribute positively to the surrounding

environment. We also prioritise diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our

operations, seeking to create inclusive and equitable communities that benefit all.

At Soho Estates, we believe that sustainability is not just a responsibility, but

an opportunity to create a better future for ourselves and the planet. We are

committed to ongoing learning and improvement in our sustainability practices,

and we are dedicated to being a leader in sustainable real estate development.

AWARD WINNING

ENVIRONMENTAL FAÇADE

Ilona Rose House has been recognised as the first building in London

to use a minimum of 75% recycled aluminium in its façade.

By using 52 tonnes of CIRCAL 75R recycled aluminium, the scheme

produced a saving of 326 tonnes of CO2 emissions compared to if the

average primary aluminium had been used - that’s the equivalent of

running 71 cars for a year.

Launched in 2018 by the Norwegian group Hydro, the new alloy

consists of a minimum of 75% post-consumer scrap.

OUR COMMUNITY

We take pride in our local area, by supporting charities tackling issues affecting communities within Soho.
In addition to charitable giving, we donate space in vacant units for non-profit and community organisations and start-ups, that contribute to the energy and creative spirit of the neighbourhood and who may otherwise be
unable to afford to operate in the area.
Young Westminster Foundation
Mastering My Future

YWF bring together youth organisations, young people, businesses, Westminster City Council, schools and the wider community to create opportunities for Westminster's 70000+ young people. Through working together more effectively at a local level, we believe we can find solutions to some of London’s greatest challenges. The purpose of this partnership is to build a collaboration and focus on improving employability prospects for young people in the socio-economic deprived parts of Westminster.

This programme aims to deliver a series of School Assemblies and Workshops, each year, to inspire and engage with young people. The workshops are designed to support young people with their personal development skills, and the workshops are hosted with local businesses, to immerse young people in the working environment and provide them access to the employees who share their career journey and offer business related activities.

Terrence Higgins Trust
Together We Can

Soho Estates has a long standing relationship with the Terrence Higgins Trust. Together we have supported individuals and communities within Soho to access information and support, improving the sexual health and lives of residents, visitors and people who work in the area. We are proud of our long-standing partnership, spanning more than a decade. Soho Estates and Terrence Higgins Trust have a track record of transformative impact on the communities that we serve.

We have supported THT in multiple programmes of support, with the most current innovative programme targeting one of the most at risk communities in the LGBT+ community: chemsex users. (whether you feel we specifically mention this or are a little more generic about it, I am happy to take your lead – but am just giving you the full overview for reference), Health promotion and harm reduction interventions in night clubs and sex on premises venues are proven to reduce high risk behaviours and enable nightlife businesses to signal a commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment.

The Caedmon Company
Hero's Journey

The programme consists of 6 x 6-week-long Hero’s Journey theatre and educational programmes mentoring a total of 36 socially disadvantaged children and their families in creating a project to finally perform on a West End stage.

The Hero’s Journey is an innovative and aspirational arts-based learning programme that uses the art of storytelling to help children learn new personal and interpersonal skills that improve well-being via energising sessions of drama, creative writing, and performance in aspirational settings. These skills include cultivating positive and healthy relationships, safety and trust, personal growth

and achievement, self-belief and resilience. The children will learn these new skills indirectly while developing a project they’ve chosen that best reflects a skill that is unique to them over the course of 6 weeks. During that time the children and young people participate in weekly workshops and are supported with originating a piece of theatre/artwork/ performance to perform on a stage in a theatre in the heart of London’s West End.

The children who will take part in our Hero's Journey programmes have been identified as socially disadvantaged and may also have been exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
