Fawn James Takes the Helm as Chief Executive of Soho Estates

NEWS

18 March 2025

Fawn James has been promoted to chief executive of property investment group Soho Estates, following 14 years as a director. She will succeed John James, who will stay on the board as a non-executive director. The appointment comes into effect on 1 April 2025.

In her new role, Fawn will lead the company’s strategy and growth, ensuring it continues to thrive while staying true to its Soho roots. Having grown up surrounded by the rich history and creative spirit of Soho and the West End, Fawn has an in-depth understanding of the area. She has played a key role in shaping Soho Estates’ investment decisions, stakeholder relationships, and project delivery.

Soho Estates has delivered several major projects over the last decade, including the redevelopment of Walker’s Court, the restoration and refurbishment of Kettner’s Townhouse and the original Soho House, and the creation of Ilona Rose House, a mixed-use development with Grade A offices and James Court, a café and restaurant-lined mews linking Manette Street to Greek Street.

One project particularly close to Fawn’s heart was the revival of the Boulevard Theatre, located on Walker’s Court. Originally founded in 1980 by her grandfather Paul Raymond alongside the legendary Revuebar, the venue has been reimagined as a contemporary performance space. It is now operated by Underbelly as their first permanent venue, staying true to its roots as a hub for live performance and comedy.

Fawn succeeds her father, John James, who remains on the board a non-executive director and trustee of the trusts that hold the property portfolio. Fawn and her sister, India Rose James - an art curator and founder of Soho Revue gallery - are the main beneficial owners of the portfolio.

Fawn James said:

"It’s a privilege to lead the talented team at Soho Estates, which plays an integral role in supporting this unique area. Soho has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My grandfather inspired in me a deep pride in being part of London’s creative heart, and my father taught me to respect its history and understand our responsibility to help it thrive. I am committed to building on that legacy, focusing on thoughtful restoration and redevelopment, supporting the local community, and ensuring Soho remains vibrant and dynamic for generations to come.”

John James commented:

“This is a natural handover for us, and I am incredibly proud to pass the baton to Fawn. Soho Estates posted record revenue in 2024, which reflects both the strength of demand and how well we and our tenants have navigated challenging conditions.

“Fawn has shown herself to be a smart businesswoman with a strong vision for the future of Soho Estates. She is committed to driving strong performance and takes a creative and active approach to our operating environment. I will be remaining on the board as a non-executive director to offer my counsel and continue to help steer the company.”
