Soho Estates statement on the closure of G-A-Y Bar

NEWS

2 October 2025

We are sad to see G-A-Y Bar preparing to close after more than two decades at 30 Old Compton Street.

Since opening in 2002, G-A-Y Bar has been a key part of Soho’s story and welcomed thousands through its doors. From spontaneous street parties to moments of solidarity and remembrance, it has been a space for music, energy, and community.

We extend our sincere thanks to Jeremy Joseph for being such a brilliant and creative tenant. His vision helped make Old Compton Street the heartbeat of LGBTQ+ nightlife, and his dedication to providing safe, inclusive, and celebratory spaces has left a lasting impact. We wish him well as he puts his focus into Heaven.

Running hospitality venues has always been challenging, and recent years have only intensified those pressures. While change is inevitable, our aim is to make sure Soho continues to be somewhere people feel welcome, inspired, and connected.
